Session A (Concurrent): Research Working Group – Chair, Dr. Mikyoung Lee (Room 3620)

An interactive session to explore grant opportunities, develop collaborative research ideas, and engage in hands-on grant writing. Subgroups include:

  • Health Disparities Research – Addressing health literacy, social determinants, and public datasets – (Dr. Laurie Long and Dr. Zhaoli Liu)
  • Interoperability Challenges in EHRs – A Multi-stakeholder Perspective – (Dr. John Kilburn and Sonya Braddy)
  • Data Literacy Development – Improving data literacy resources and communication – (Lorrie Burkhalter and Dr. Janice Miles)
  • AI Implementation – Exploring AI-driven innovations for patient care – (Dr. Ling Chu)

*Note: New subgroups will be formed based on participants’ interests.*

Session B (Concurrent): Policy & Standard Working Group – Moderator, Lakshmi Chandrabhanu (Room 2102)

Hands on session to explore Texas Legislative Activity related to health informatics, creating an understanding of how to follow activity, understand the impact and engage in advocacy efforts. Open Discussion on data usability efforts nationally and within Texas with prioritization of workgroup member support.

  • Legislative and Advocacy Engagement (how to find your representatives, advocacy examples, follow bills, etc.) – (Lakshmi Chandrabhanu)
  • Texas Session and Health Information Technology (HIT) – (Nora Cox)
    • Understanding current status
    • What does this mean for healthcare and informatics
    • Artificial Intelligence legislation

Explore the role of AI in education, focusing on simulation, trust, and responsible AI use.
Topics include:

  • AI-Powered Simulation-Based Education – (Dr. Jennifer Roye)
  • AI & EHRs: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – (Dr. John Kilburn)
  • AI Tools for Teaching – Skills and Assessment – (Dr. Shakera Moreland)
